We aim to make a course to suit your needs. Largely bespoke it is likely to cover everything you need to look after your clay, building techniques, how to glaze and fire safely and successfully, supported with notes.
Development of practical skills, working with;How to choose appropriate clays for your projects, looking after your clay, recycling and wedging for use. Pugs. Includes preparation of a clay batt for recycling
Mixing your own coloured clay and making slips.
Glazing techniques.Glaze application techniques. Simple Glazing Tricks of the trade; how to get by with limited funds, savings to be made by mixing your own glazes. Brush on glazes, looking after glaze and recycling old glazes. Staying safe, Oxides, stains and wax resist-when to use masks and gloves. COSH. Safe handling of materials
Firing Your KilnThe day commences at 10am and finishes at 4 although the studio will be available for use until 5.30
Arrival time 9.30 An hour for lunch in the gardens or cottage. (Lunch is provided, form to be forwarded). Please make any suggestions if you want the content of the course tailored.
