Pay as you go Pottery Studio, Pulborough
ClaynGlaze is a family run pottery studio tucked away in the shadows of the south downs, just outside Pulborough, West Sussex. We offer a range of courses, activities and pay as you go studio time for all abilities. ‘Pay as You Go’, enables you to enjoy ceramics on a budget you can afford, clay, glazes and firing is included in the hourly rate as well as refreshments. There is no upfront termly fee.
The large studio space is well equipped with various wheels a variety of glazes, a breadth of glazes of various firing temperatures and a number of kilns not to mention a high capacity kettle and ceramic biscuit bin. Who we are
Wendy Yates, Artist in residence.
Wendy Yates the ‘artist in residence’, has been working with clay for over 40 years. Recently retired from teaching in schools and colleges at various levels she has made time to concentrate on her own work and offer technical assistance on others with their own creative projects from beginners to advanced levels.
Wendy’s husband John who built the studio, enjoys Throwing and Handbuiding. Charlie, our daughter, often helps with classes having attained Distinction levels at Pre-U level namely working on animal sculptures she is currently studying a Masters in ’Canine and Equine Physiotherapy‘. She regularly is found helping in the studio and often works on her own commissions. Her friendly dog Merlin and over friendly chicken Carol are frequent visitors to the studio. Matt has recently joined the team as our expert thrower. He has many years experience as a professional thrower and helps with various ceramic projects and courses but essentially works on his own line of hand thrown pottery and to commission.
ClaynGlaze Studio, Pulborough
ClaynGlaze studio is in a rural setting, just outside Pulborough in West Sussex, nestled in the shadows of the south downs. The studio itself has fabulous views across the fields. The house is circa 1580 and the grounds, some three plus acres are stunning in keeping with everything you imagine a country cottage should be. Wendy and John love to garden and “grow to eat”, there is a very well stocked allotment, green house and free-range eggs from the 10 West Sussex chickens. New additions are a bantam cockerel and seven quails. Organic gardening and healthy eating are all part of a plan to get back to basics and live off the land as well as creating beautiful pottery.
